Christian Counselling creates a space for you to confidentially discuss personal issues with a counsellor from a Christian perspective and worldview.

About the Service.

Christian Counselling provides counselling to adults (aged 18+) in the Dubbo region. Christian Counselling enables a Christian individual who may be struggling with thoughts, relationships or life, to meet with a Christian who is equipped to deliver counselling.  With Christian Counselling, you will be able to work through your issues from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach, with the appreciation of a Christian perspective. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the gold standard approach to counselling worldwide.  It looks at the relationship between thoughts and feelings, events and our response. CBT is beneficial to identify your thoughts and challenge your thinking styles to achieve better outcomes.  An individual who frames their situation from a CBT approach will find alternate ways of thinking, reduce depression and anxiety and build on their strengths. Because all people are individuals, the client will direct from the initial session what their goals are for counselling and how they would like to be supported from their Christian counsellor.  This may include prayer and Biblical input. Christian Counselling provides a safe and understanding environment to discuss matters with a Christian within a counselling framework.  Christian Counselling acknowledges that Christians come from a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences and understandings.  Because of this, the counsellor wishes to facilitate a non-judgemental space, that is genuinely open to the client identified needs and direction.

Cost per session: $130.

Cash or cheque are our current payment methods.  To be eligible for the Medicare rebate, all you need to do is request a Better Access (Mental Health Treatment Plan) referral from your GP.  This will entitle you to six sessions, with the possibility of a further four sessions (per calendar year).  With a Better Access referral you will pay $130, and receive $74.80 back through Medicare. Please see our FAQ section for further information on the Better Access initiative eligibility. If cost is the barrier for your attendance, reduced fee and bulk billing may be possible.

From Elizabeth...

Welcome to Christian Counselling.  It is my hope that this service will cater to the needs of Christians in the Dubbo district who may be in need of talking through their issues with a Christian counsellor.  I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers.  My aim is to provide counselling to those who would appreciate the ears and heart of a Christian.  I have worked in organisations in the past predominantly from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach.  Clients have found this beneficial in understanding their thinking styles and improving their mental health. However it has been on my heart to deliver a service where a person can confidently be in a counselling space that is non-judgemental, confidential and where beliefs (or Christian worldview) can be openly discussed. 5436 Kind RegardsElizabeth Browne

Frequently Asked Questions.

Q: I’m not a Christian, can I still be a client of your service?A: Of course!  We are all on individual journeys and it is great that you are interested in improved mental health and wellbeing, (which is what the counsellor is interested in too). Q: How do I know if I qualify for reduced fee or bulk billing?A: We do not want cost to be an obstacle for engagement in counselling.  Please consider what you may be able to afford. Our service recommends a referral from your GP, so that Medicare can cover some of the cost or allow bulk billing. For Medicare to cover some of the cost or to bulk bill, you will need to obtain a Better Access (Mental Health Treatment Plan) referral from your GP, which will enable a possible 10 visits per calendar year. You will require a Medicare card for this. To be eligible for the Better Access initiative, the client must be assessed by their GP as having a mental health disorder, (eg. Depression/Anxiety), who would benefit from counselling. A mental health disorder significantly interferes with an individual’s cognitive, emotional or social abilities. Q: I notice there is no disability access and I am not able to use stairs. Can I still access your service?A: The counsellor will endeavour to provide home visits, Skype or phone sessions, according to your needs. Q: What is a Christian anyway?A: A Christian is a person who acknowledges that they need Jesus in their life. We learn in the Bible that Jesus provides the way for having a relationship with God. Sometimes when life is hard, this can be the point in time where it becomes more apparent that God is inviting us into a loving relationship and future living with him. Q: What can I expect from a session at Christian Counselling?A: The first session allows up to 60 minutes. During this time, the client can introduce themselves and their story. It can be a time of consolidating what the client would like to gain from counselling. The subsequent sessions allow for up to 50 minutes. During this time, the client can learn strategies to address any issues that were introduced, reflect on any activities between sessions and unpack their situation in further detail. A client may find it relevant to incorporate prayer or Bible reading into their session, if so desired.
